Lemon Margarita with Organic Tequila

If you just have to have a Margarita on National Margarita Day, this clean Lemon Margarita will do the least damage. And you won’t have to sacrifice a thing in the taste department.

How to Make the Perfect Lemon Margarita

Made with organic tequila and not even a pinch of refined sugar, this Lemon Margarita is about as clean and healthy as a cocktail can get. Although a perfectly made classic lime margarita is always irresistible. I can honestly say I love my lemony version every bit as much. Maybe even more so. I feel quite confident that tequila aficionados will be very pleased (wink).

2 Simple Ingredient Swaps Make all the Difference

To make it clean up my lemon margarita, I make some smart swaps that you can easily make too.

For the refined sugar that’s found in most margaritas, I swap it out for naturally sweet and highly nutritious medjool dates. You end up with all of the sweet flavor minus the empty sugar calories. Using dates is truly the cleanest and healthiest way to have your margarita and drink it too!

As for the organic tequila, surprisingly there are actually a few organic tequilas out there, but I prefer Organic Ixa Silver Tequila. This stuff is pretty amazing actually. And I don’t even normally like tequila! However, I recently learned tequila is actually not nearly as unhealthy as I once thought.

Did You Know Tequila Has Prebiotics?

I’m not going to tell you tequila is a superfood, but it does have some unique beneficial attributes.

First, not all tequila is created equal. The very best and healthiest tequila is made from 100 percent blue agave with no additives. Blanco is the purest type of 100 percent blue agave tequila. After a meal, 100 percent blue agave tequila can be a good digestive. The agave plant contains high amounts of inulin, which is a prebiotic known to aid the digestive system by promoting good bacteria.

Tequila made with 100 percent agave also contains agavins, a kind of sugar that might help with weight loss. These sugars (which are not the same as in the more commonly known agave syrup) are non-digestible and do not raise blood sugar. Agavins also help produce a hormone (GPP-1) that is known to keep the stomach fuller longer.

Again, I’m not saying tequila is a superfood, but it’s not all bad. Just remember to get the good stuff! Because when it comes to tequila, quality does matter.

One More Secret for my Sweet Lemon Margarita Recipe

Like many of my recipes, you will need a high-speed blender for this cocktail. The only way to make the Lemon Margarita Recipe perfectly smooth and ultra well-blended without using refined sugar is to whirl the dates with the liquid in a high-speed blender for a good full minute or so. And yes, the high-speed whirling is also the secret to getting the foamy topping.

Without a doubt, my favorite high-speed blender is Luvele Vibe Blender. This blender is like no other I have ever used, and will blend up basically anything! It also makes the perfect Lemon Margarita!
